Some of the Key Initiatives to take us into the Future.
Food Safety Program
In 2004 we will be setting the foundation for the development of a comprehensive Food Safety Program, a voluntary activity which has to do with Excellence in practices, records and systems related to the standards of quality and safe production of food. This will set the foundation for compliance with standards set by other countries that wish to import our products and also put in place many of the processes needed for full organic certification (see below).
Organic Certification
Today, our seaweeds are collected on the wild coastlines of New Zealand in areas that have not been subjected to any significant type of cultivation, grazing or other forms of human management. As a result they (and most of their derivative products) are fully organic. It is our intention to commence the Organic Certification process for our products shortly. This is quite an extensive exercise given the variety of processes involved in the making of our product range.
Exporting
Pacific Harvest is currently operating mainly within New Zealand. However we have been approached by some overseas parties who are interested in carrying our products and have started some exporting on a small scale. As we put in place some of the necessary processes for Food Safety and Organic Certification, we will be ensuring that the basic compliance issues for exporting are also covered.
New Product Directions
We do more than just preparing sea vegetables; we pride ourselves on providing natural foods of the highest quality, prepared creatively to integrate well with the western diet and presented to appeal to all senses! We actively collaborate with universities and other institutions on understanding new product opportunities (see alliances / partners section).
