Sea Lettuce is bright green and is often seen on the beaches or free floating on sea water. It belongs to the Ulva family of seaweeds. Fresh in the wild, its appearance is like tissue paper. It is often called the 'salad green' of the sea, 'green laver' or Aonori (Japan).Once dried, it is very light in weight.
Sea Lettuce is also abondant in several varieties around New Zealand, unfortunately harvesting is not allowed at this time. It is imported from France.
Sea Lettuce has a distinctive flavour. It is full of chlorophyll, vitamins A and B12 and many minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron. It is said to help the immune system and purify the blood.
Pacific Harvest Sea Lettuce is offered in two different formats: full leaves, dried or lightly roasted flakes.
The Leaves can be used to wrap, line or garnish food. They are great to fry, grill or poach little parcels of rice, vegetables or fish, adding a delicate taste of the sea. The Flakes make a wonderfully different salad sprinkle and can be used as a tasty and nutritious addition to fish recipes, rice, pasta, vegetables, sandwitches, soups, eggs, cream cheese and dips. See our <recipe pamphlet> in the cooking section
Sea Lettuce must be stored in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
