Pacific Harvest Natural Sea Chicory belongs to the 'red seaweed' group and is harvested from the clear waters of the South Pacific. It is called 'natural' because the colour varies from coral pink to brown depending on maturity & environmental conditions. It has a mild, pleasant taste and extraordinary health benefits that make it an ideal nutritional and culinary addition to many dishes, especially Soups, salads & edible garnish. The seaweed expands considerably when rehydrating, about 8 times its original dried size. Sea Chicory rivals nori in Peruvian fare and is also well-known in Asia, generally called 'yanaginori' in Japan.
Our Sea Chicory is harvested sustainably from the wild coast of South America and tested for contaminants.

The colour is very attractive, bright and in shades of red, rust & green. The taste is mild and the texture slightly crunchy. It makes a striking edible garnish for seafood & raw vegetable platters or fresh salads, and adds colour, texture & nutrition to soups & stews. Try it in coconut milk, combined with marinated fish or in tuna poke, a salad from Hawaii. Because of its high content in seaweed jelly, Sea Chicory is an alternative to Irish Moss to set puddings. When using Sea Chicory in salads, the dressing should be added when ready to eat as it may draw out its natural jelly, making the seaweed feel slippery.

There has been some evidence that Carrageenan, a gel compound naturally present in Sea Chicory, may decrease blood pressure and slow blood clotting. Caution is advised if the seaweed is consumed regularly while being treated for high blood pressure or using medication that slow blood clotting.
