Green Sea Chicory is an attractive seaweed prized or its mild taste, vibrant colour & crunchy texture. Great in salads or used as an edible garnish.

Sea Chicory green seaweed is well-known in Asia – particularly in Okinawa – and in coastal areas of South America. Part of the ‘red’ seaweed group, Sea Chicory is prized for its enticing appearance, jellifying properties, mild taste and crunchy texture. Japanese people call it ‘yanaginori’, and it is one of the traditional ingredients in Peruvian food.  Great in salads, it also makes a fantastic edible garnish that boosts the nutritional value of a dish.

Pacific Harvest Sea Chicory is harvested from the clear waters of the South Pacific. It re-hydrates quickly and expands dramatically (8-10x) before your eyes; it is said to have extraordinary health benefits.

Our Sea Chicory is harvested sustainably from the wild coast of South America and tested for contaminants.

Download your Sea Chicory Recipe Brochure What looks like a mass of dried wiry hair reconstitutes to what resembles pretty little bits of lace. The colour is very attractive, bright and in shades of red, rust & green. The taste is mild and the texture slightly crunchy. It makes a striking edible garnish for seafood & raw vegetable platters or fresh salads, and adds colour, texture & nutrition to soups & stews. Try it in coconut milk, combined with marinated fish or in tuna poke, a salad from Hawaii. Because of its high content in seaweed jelly, Sea Chicory is an alternative to Irish Moss to set puddings. When using Sea Chicory in salads, the dressing should be added when ready to eat as it may draw out its natural jelly, making the seaweed feel slippery.

Caution is advised if the seaweed is consumed regularly while being treated for high blood pressure or using medication that slow blood clotting.
